Targeting traffic for your website is as easy as knowing how to simply direct traffic to your website rather than another one. However, one thing you should definitely not do is try and trick the search engines with invisible keywords as this could get you blacklisted. This is the worst case scenario, but it happens frequently to people who try to trick the search engines. Don’t let this happen to you and simply find out what search engines look for and then optimize your page accordingly.
#3 - Pay per Click Advertising
Pay per click advertising is another way for you to generate traffic to your website and you only have to pay when someone clicks on your advertisiment. The way this works is you bid on specific keywords so that when these keywords are searched for, your ad shows up on the web page along with the search results. The higher you bid on ad placement, the higher your ad is displayed. Generally, no more than 10 ads are displayed on a page and you’ll want to be within the top four ads for optimal exposure.

Phone Taps That Allow You to Listen to Both Ends of the Conversation
There are some phone taps that are not true taps at all. They are more like bugs that only allow you to listen to one end of the conversation. While one end can be very useful, the fact is that it can also be very incomplete, leaving a lot of things to conjecture. The most effective phone taps allow you to listen to both ends of the conversation so that you can get as much context from the conversation as possible.
Usually hard taps, soft taps, and advanced cell phone bugs are the phone taps that can allow you to listen to both sides of the conversation. These are taps that get you “into the system,” so to speak, so that you are in the middle of the communication. The best and most advanced taps are not noticeable by the parties being listened to, and so the eavesdropper can hear whatever needs to be heard without letting the others know she or he is there.
Hard phone taps are those that make use of an actual physical line. They consist of a secondary line hooked into the primary line and then bridged to another location. The person listening can be at the location of the tap, or they can use a “slave” to send a transmission. This type of phone tap is extremely difficult to detect, as it is hardwired and usually at a location away from the phone, so sweeping the room for bugs will not be effective.
Soft phone taps are those that take place inside the software of the phone company. The listener gains access to the digital network by hacking in or receiving permission. Most phone companies today now incorporate digital lines into their service, even if the person has a land line. This means that the listener only needs to know which line is associated with the conversation he or she would like to listen to. These are relatively easy to find if someone knows how to look in the software, but virtually undetectable to the parties having the conversations.
Cell phone taps are another matter altogether. They make use of a special cell phone that allows you to dial a secret number to activate the phone for listening. The user is usually unsuspecting and has no idea you are listening to the conversation when you use cell phone taps.

Plasma Televisions
Now a status symbol among the rich and wealthy, a plasma TV is a high-definition (HDTV) alternative to the standard cathode-ray televisions sold today. It gives viewers sharp images and vibrant colors, particularly when used in conjunction with high-definition broadcasts. A quality plasma TV, however, does not come cheap. Its price ranges from $4,000 to $15,000 plus.
One of the main attractions of a plasma TV is a flat screen, which can be mounted directly on a wall. Manufacturers often employ surround-sound theater speakers and high-end receivers to complete the feeling of luxury. No wonder plasma TVs are such a craze these days.
In terms of science, ‘plasma’ refers to inert gases like neon and xenon that glow when in contact with an electrical field. Televisions usually rely on thousands of small ‘picture elements’, abbreviated as pixels. A bundle of three distinct colors, usually red, green and yellow, constitute one pixel in a color TV. Properly controlling the level of each color, all of the other colors of the spectrum can be produced in each pixel. The distance between the viewer and the screen is usually such that the individual pixels blur into each other and the illusion of motion is created as they change color. Plasma or not, this holds true for any television system.
The individual pixels in a plasma TV are made from three tiny containers of an inert gas like neon or xenon. There are thousands of these tiny tubes on an average plasma TV screen. All of them are sandwiched between two electrically charged plates. And plasma glows when exposed to an electrical current. A cable or broadcast antenna dispatches signals to a computer-processing unit. The antenna instructs the unit how to reassemble the entire picture hundreds of times per second.
A plasma TV screen contains more pixels than a standard television, so the image is noticeably sharper. If light conditions are ambient, a plasma TV will perform at its best. As flat screens have a viewing angle of 160 degrees, one can watch TV from almost any position in a room.

A Unique History of the Light Bulb
Most people assume that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb. This is only partially true however. Historically speaking, many people helped developed the modern incandescent bulb. Though Thomas Edison’s achievements were by far the most significant, there are several others that deserve some credit.
Important People In The Life Of A Light Bulb
Sir Humphrey Davy is the first person to create artificial light. While conducting experiments Davy passed an electric arc of energy between two poles. The resulting “light” had a short life but nonetheless contributed to the science of electricity.
In 1820 a fellow named Warren De la Rue also tried to create the incandescent light bulb. Using a platinum coil, la Rue passed a current of electricity through a tube. This successful resulted in a light “bulb” or sorts. However, the platinum coil used proved way too expensive to mass-produce. Thus la Rue’s creation served more as a research tool than anything else.
Still searching for the perfect bulb, Frederick de Moleyns stepped up to the plate in 1841. He used powdered charcoal filters as a conductor for light energy. He is the first person granted a patent for creating incandescent lamps. Then, Edward Shepard less than a decade later used a charcoal filament to create an incandescent lamp. Like its predecessors, this light was short-lived. Around the same time a man named Joseph Swan also started using carbon as filaments. Carbon provided a lower cost and more efficient filament material than other metal alternatives.
In 1854 a German worker created a filament using carbonized bamboo. This successfully produced an incandescent electric bulb. The light bulb had the same problem as its predecessors however. Short life spans seemed to plague the early inventors of light for many years before Edison stepped on to the scene. In 1860 Joseph Swan displayed a decent light bulb using carbonized filaments. His problem however, was failure to create a proper vacuum and enough electricity to product a lasting light.
Thomas Edison Enters the Light Bulb Scene
Finally Thomas Edison, after thousands of experiments, in 1879 figures out that carbonized paper filament produces a lasting light bulb. Thomas Edison’s bulb produced light for almost 15 hours. Thus, he is credited with producing the first effective and useful incandescent bulb.
Thomas Edison tried more than 6,000 different plant species before he discovered the one that would work as a proper filament. A few years later a gentleman named Lewis Latimer patented a process that allowed carbon filaments to be manufactured more efficiently. His process extended the life of Edison’s carbon filaments, producing an even longer lasting light bulb.
Thomas Edison of course never stopped working on the light bulb. After creating the first incandescent light bulb to last, he worked on creating the first useful incandescent lamp. Thankfully many other researchers continued to refine Edison’s work. Because of this, there are many different varieties of bulb available today.
Let’s take a peak at some of the inventions that followed the first incandescent bulb.
New Discoveries in Incandescence
The journey of the light bulb did not stop with Edison. In the early 1900s researchers discovered that tungsten filaments were more efficient for producing long lasting light that carbon ones. Now tungsten is the standard for light bulb filaments, even in modern times.
Today the light bulb has evolved into a work of art. There are many different categories of light bulb today, aside from the traditional incandescent. Some of the more popular varieties include:
- Full spectrum light bulbs
- Automotive LED bulbs
- Compact fluorescent light bulbs
- Halogen light bulbs
- Projector light bulbs
- Tanning bed bulbs

Effective Online Forum Usage
What information consumes is rather obvious: it consumes the attention of its recipients. Hence, a wealth of information creates a poverty of attention and a need to allocate that attention efficiently among the overabundance of information sources that might consume it.

Online forums, message boards, and newsgroups are now ubiquitous. These powerful communication tools offer many strong benefits. However, forum participation can also become a destructive addiction, where the benefits are overshadowed by negative side effects.
Here are some potential benefits of regular online forum participation:
* Intellectual exchange
* Learning new ideas and refining old ones
* Enjoying community membership
* Influencing the forum’s evolution
* Contributing to others
* Making new friends and contacts
* New business leads
* Keeping up with current events
* Learning about new opportunities
Here are some potential negative effects of excessive forum usage:
* Reduced concentration and focus
* Reduced productivity
* Chronic procrastination
* Increased pessimism and/or apathy
* Being distracted by endless debates and idle gossip
* Gradually substituting tribal group think for your own intelligence
* Impaired social skills, neglected relationships, and a weakened social circle (a consequence of substituting online socialization for face-to-face conversations)
* Reduced energy (forum participation is sedentary compared to more active social outlets)

Since the early 1990s, I’ve participated in many different online forums, message boards, and newsgroups and have experienced many of these positive and negative effects at various times. I ran a popular game developer forum for almost two years, so I’ve had experience both as a participant and a forum operator. On the positive side, I’ve learned many great ideas, made valuable new business contacts, and even met my wife on a local computer bulletin board system. On the negative side, I found excess participation to be a huge time drain (and very addicting as well).
Here are some suggestions for using forums effectively and avoiding the negative side effects:
1. Take a Forum Fast
First, if you’re currently active in any forums, go on a forum fast. Stop visiting all forums for a while; don’t even lurk. I recommend a fasting period of 30 days, with a bare minimum of 14 days. This will help you break any unconscious habits and regain your perspective, so you can intelligently evaluate the role forums should play in your life. Otherwise, you may be coming from a place of unconscious habit and will likely overestimate the value of continued participation. If you’re currently a forum moderator, take a forum vacation, and enlist someone to temporarily assume your moderation duties. Redirect the time you would have spent in online forums to something positive like exercising or reading books. If you don’t think you have the discipline to do this, simply make a post in each forum explaining that you’ll be taking the next 30 days off, and if any forum member catches you online, you’ll pay the first person that emails you about it $100. This should give you enough leverage to stick with your fast.
2. Reassess Your Forum Usage Habits
Once you’ve completed the initial fasting period (and not before), take a fresh look at your forum participation habits. Imagine that you just discovered each forum today for the first time. What are the pros and cons of participation? Is this the best use of your time, or can you imagine something better? If you’re using forums to get specific information, would it be better to simply read books, articles, or blogs? If you’re using them as a social outlet, would it be better to join a local club and meet people face-to-face? Looking back on your previous pattern of behavior, would you say you were addicted? Did your usage pattern become unconscious? If so, how do you intend to prevent that from happening again?
3. Clarify Your Expectations
If you decide to participate in online forums, clarify your expectations. Whether you intend to use forums for market research, to make new contacts, or as an outlet for your humorous wit, get clear on why you’re there.
4. Establish Reasonable Boundaries
To limit the risk of forum addiction, set clear boundaries for yourself and write them down. You can limit the number of times per week you check each forum, the total amount of time you spend participating, or the number of posts you’ll allow yourself to make each week. Track your weekly usage on a scrap of paper to keep yourself consciously aware of your participation habits. Don’t go dark and succumb to unconscious habituation. Establish clear boundaries such that if you cross them, you know you’re at risk of falling into a pattern of addiction. And if that ever happens, it’s time to immediately begin a new fasting period.
5. Let It Go
If you find yourself repeatedly succumbing to forum addiction or other negative usage patterns, you may decide it’s best to simply do without. At the time of this writing, I no longer regularly participate in any online forums or message boards. When I clarified my intentions, I realized my #1 reason for participation was to contribute and to help people. But using forums as a contribution outlet was inefficient, since it would too often lead to lengthy (and mostly unproductive) debates. I found that sticking with one-to-many outlets like writing articles and maintaining a blog were a much better use of my time. Blog comments still allow some interactivity, but the time required to manage them is reasonable and the personal relevance of most blog comments is extremely high.
6. Replace Online Socialization With Face-to-Face Contact
Regarding the social aspect, online forums are a poor substitute for meeting people in person. While there’s certainly some social benefit to forums - many people have met their spouses in online forums, including me - it’s important to physically spend time with human beings instead of via a computer screen. If you need a new social outlet, join a local club or association, especially one that meets weekly. I found that when I joined Toastmasters International and began attending meetings and competing in speech contests, my interest in socializing via online forums fell dramatically. Even the best online communication pales in comparison to face-to-face, belly-to-belly contact.
7. Be a Dabbler, Not a Fixture
Another tip is to treat forum participation as temporary. If your goal is to make new business contacts, then dive in and participate actively for a while, maybe 30-90 days. Make new friends and contacts, collect private contact info, and then abandon the forums. Continue to develop your new relationships via one-to-one communication like email, phone calls, and if possible, face-to-face meetings (such as at industry conferences). Temporarily dabbling in many different forums is a more effective way to build contacts than pushing a single forum far beyond its usefulness.
You can also use the dabbling method to gather general information on a subject. Seek out a number of relevant forums and bookmark them. Then spend a few hours scanning each forum once every six months to soak up the current wisdom. Whenever you have a specific question, pop in and search the forum archives. If searching turns up a blank, feel free to post a new message, harvest the answers, and disappear.
8. Avoid Addiction
Online forums are tricky beasts. At the time of this writing, my feeling is that ongoing daily participation in any single forum for more than a few months is almost invariably unproductive. Eventually the initial benefits like gaining knowledge and making new contacts produce diminishing returns. And then the negative effects like forum addiction set in. Regular participation (even from unconscious habituation) will still provide some benefits, but the longer you participate, the less efficiently those benefits are realized.
Close cousins of forum addiction include online gaming addiction, web surfing addiction, blog addiction, email addiction, and news addiction. The common pattern is that unconscious habituation overrides conscious, clear-headed decision-making. If you ever find yourself with such an unproductive habit, take steps to reassert conscious control. Use a period of fasting to regain your perspective, reexamine your motives, set clear boundaries, and find alternative outlets. Manage your forum usage consciously to serve your goals, and avoid the trap of addiction.
Online forums can be a powerful productivity tool, but self-awareness and discipline are required to prevent them from becoming a pitfall of procrastination.

Convex or Flat - Large Photographs - Circa 1900
Often having a pastel or chalky or simply just a photographic brown or black and white appearance in the early 1900’s, the large family portrait hanging over the mantle was an expensive and difficult project to undertake. Hometown photographers throughout the world simply were not able to produce the large “portraits” easily and resorted to mail order services. These mail order studios were generally located in large cities and could provide, what history has proven, a truly lasting and fine product by using photographic equipment capable of oversized printing, the use of talented hand-tinters (artists) and excellent photo mounting facilities – not to mention a very efficient mail shipping room.
Over the years I have studied and usually repaired more than 3000 of these pieces and have noted their constitution. May of these prints are convex, oval and hand colored. Others look like flat black and white or brown tone prints. Some look like drawings where as others look just like a large photograph. All of these large convex and flat photos are mounted on rag-board. Over the years, sunlight, heat and moisture have given the prints an “aged” look usually accented by a large exquisite frame. What matters most about them is that they are someone’s ancestors. The family traits, eyes, noses and mouths are important, but what matters most is they are family from the past, our heritage.
Can they be refurbished if there is damage from years of storage and neglect? The answer is nearly almost “yes” though sometime the task is made considerably more difficult if the photographs are actually broken. The process that was used in their initial manufacture is the key to the remarkable ability to bring these prints back to a nearly new condition without sacrificing the established aged look.
When a restoration or refurbishing is undertaken, special attention must be paid to the brittle nature of the pieces and the highly acidic nature of the photographic paper in which the silver image is embedded. Careless use of the wrong retouching materials and lacquers may severely damage any effort to rescue an otherwise fine image. Insect manifestation and water lines must receive special attention. The fine touches of color must be made with ground up oil-based pastels.
The technical beauty of these photographs lies in their inherent archival qualities. When properly taken care of, these objects will grace the walls of any home for decades without any significant deterioration of the image content unlike its contemporary counterpart, the natural color photograph which begins a slow, but steady decomposition from the time it is purchased.

He was an innovator, inventing physical rehabilitation equipment
during World War I, and a health maintenance system that honors
his name.
Much like Yoga, movement is generally low impact, slow, safe,
and thorough. Although Pilates is well known for toning the core
muscles, it is a complete health maintenance system for the
body. There is no meditation practice, in a traditional Pilates
class, but focus on breath is a “corner stone” of Pilates
practice.
Walking has so many benefits, for a simple low impact exercise,
and yet it is often ignored. The average walker will live longer
due to the fact they have less problems with stroke, diabetes,
heart disease, cancer, and other life threatening conditions.
Like many other forms of exercise, walking is subject to many
studies. It has been found that walking two miles per day
contributes to longevity. In the January 8, 1998 issue of the
New England Journal of Medicine, there was an article about a
Honolulu Heart Study with 8,000 male participants. This study
took 12-years and it was found that walking two miles per day
reduced the chance of death by nearly half. That study alone
makes walking an exercise worth participating in, whether you
choose to walk indoors or outside.
Cycling is a good, low impact, and aerobic workout. You can also
build strength, in your legs, with a little intensity. Depending
on the level of intensity you can burn 250-400 calories per hour
or more. Just like walking, you can cycle indoors or outside,
but there are safety guidelines to be aware of, for outdoor
cycling. If you do bike outside, be cautious, observe the rules
of the road, wear safety gear, and use bike trails when
possible. Stay aware, at all times, when you are biking outdoors.
Dieting and nutrition are major factors in fitness. Your meals
should be moderate in size, and spread out over the course of
the day. You should make it a point to eat nutritionally dense
meals, take a good vitamin / mineral supplement, and drink
plenty of water every day.
Habits to avoid are eating too much takeout food, eating at
restaurants, eating large portions, and unconscious eating. So,
make it a point to carry fresh fruit, vegetables, and healthy
snacks with you. This will stop you from impulse buying at the
next drive-thru, and over consumption of food, at a single
sitting.
