Googling “wii download” shows us loads of online companies selling Wii game downloads and discussing the possibility of getting a particular download game. Wii keeps access for standard Nintendo games signifying that you possess the power to download the old standards of the previous Nintendo games, as well as the exciting new games. With the rise of smart phones such as the iPhone and the upcoming Prada phone from LG, everyone and their brother is predicting the demise of the ringtone industry. They may have a point - after all, these devices double as MP3 players, and hence one’s entire music collection could be called upon to be used as a ringtone.

But let’s not sell ringtones too short, too quickly. If history is any indicator, these high tech gadgets are usually snapped up by the early adopters. Your average Joe and Josephine are not going to run out and drop half a grand on a Prada at the drop of a hat. No, the average cell phone user will be downloading ringtones for a long time to come - and of course they’ll be searching for free ringtones. The prices that providers can charge for ringtones will be forced to decline, of course, as the adoption of smart phones increase; so well undoubtedly see many sites popping up offering completely free ringtones to satisfy consumer demand. Bank on it.

New Dell Computers have hit the Australian computer market, out with the dimensions in with the Inspiron desktops. If you’re looking for a future looking computer filled up to the brim with power, well look no further Dell has the look!

Dell Inspiron 530

Dell’s first desktops to carry the Inspiron name look good, inside and out. With a huge range of available components and two equally attractive cases, mainstream consumers ought to be able to find a config that meets their budget, tastes, and computing needs. If you require Bluetooth or Blu-ray, however, you’ll have to put your purchase plans on hold.

Dell has dropped its venerable Dimension desktop brand. Now, both its mainstream consumer desktops and laptops will carry the Inspiron name. Along with the name change, Dell’s new Inspiron 530 and 530s PCs usher in Intel’s latest G33 chipset (aka Bearlake), which features a speedy 1,333MHz frontside bus. The other two models in the lineup, the Inspiron 531 and 531s, feature AMD processors on Nvidia’s MCP 61 chipset. The 530s and 531s units feature a slim chassis akin to the Dimension C521’s. Each of the four models boasts a wide array of configuration options; prices start at a rock-bottom $349 and can quickly top $1,500 when you start adding upgrades. For a complete details, read our full review of the Dell Dimension 531, which won an Editors’ Choice.

The big range in price is due in large part to the wide array of CPU options. The Intel-based models offer both low-end Celeron and dual-core Core 2 Duo processors, while the AMD-based models offer both low-end Sempron and dual-core Athlon 64 X2 processors. Memory ranges from 512MB to 4GB. All four major flavors of Vista are offered as well; no word on whether XP is an option for those less than enthralled with Microsoft’s latest OS effort.

Both the midtower and the slim chassis offer two hard drive bays (which you can populate with two 500GB drives for a 1TB of storage) and the option for a PCI Express graphics card (the half-height variety for the 530s and 531s units). Also available in all models but particularly useful in the slim models, which are likely candidates to be shoehorned into home theater racks, is an optional 802.11b/g (but sadly, not 802.11n) Wi-Fi card, which will save you from having to run an Ethernet cable through your living room. Integrated Bluetooth is another living-room-friendly technology, and Dell is bringing it to these Inspiron desktops shortly. Likewise, Dell will add Blu-ray drives as on option soon.

Aesthetically, the new Inspiron line extends the silver-and-white color scheme that you can find on late-model Dimensions. The last generation of Dimensions were sleek-looking, but the area around the optical drives was black, which was in stark contrast to the rest of the case. Now, the Inspiron cases feature drive-bay covers, lending a more unified design to the PCs.

The Inspiron line carries Dell’s standard one-year parts-and-labor warranty, but the company’s DataSafe backup has moved online. Dell offers you 3GB of online storage and won’t charge you for the first year.

Dell Inspiron 531

The good: Sleek new case design; overachieving application performance; finally has a Wi-Fi adapter option; integrated Bluetooth (shortly after launch); new, mostly useful support software.

The bad: Some higher-end configuration options are limited to Dell’s XPS line.

The bottom line: The last of the major desktop vendors to update this year’s desktops, Dell used that time to good advantage. On some tests, the Inspiron 531 is even faster than systems that cost $500 more. Keep your gaming and digital media ambitions modest, and this PC should deliver nearly everything you’d want in a mainstream system.

The Dell Inspiron 531 (along with a handful of other new desktops) marks the introduction of a more streamlined Dell product family. For both laptops and desktops, the Inspiron line will represent its mainstream consumer PCs, with the XPS looping together the high-end products. In other words, so long Dimension, hello Inspiron, which makes a strong first impression with this new midtower system. Our $979 Inspiron 531 config is as fast or faster than others in its class and it also has a compelling set of features. Throw in its clean new looks, and this suddenly becomes the mainstream desktop we’d recommend first.

Consider the Inspiron 531 the spiritual successor to the Dimension E521. Both represent Dell’s mainstream consumer desktop offering, with configuration options that let you build a system in a price range roughly between $350 and $1,500, not including peripherals and optional software. The new Inspiron also continues the Dimension 531’s aesthetic update from the old Dimension 4000 series. While not quite as clean-lined as an Apple product, Dell’s new desktop design is attractive enough so that you shouldn’t feel embarrassed to keep it in public view.

Like the Dimension E521 we reviewed, our sample Inspiron 531 came with a 2.6GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ dual core processor. This new model has 2GB of faster 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, though, as well as a more recent 256MB Nvidia GeForce 8600GT 3D card. The hard drive actually got a little smaller, down to roomy-enough 250GB from 320GB on the older Dell, but then the price of this system is actually about $50 less than the older system. We expect you’d be able to upgrade to a larger hard drive for about that price, giving the Inspiron a stronger config on balance.

Compare the Inspiron 531 to PCs from other vendors, though, and you’ll find that this system stands out in both features and performance. Two key updates bring the Inspiron 531 in line with and even beyond its competition. Finally, Dell offers 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi via a PCI card. And it won’t be available until “shortly after launch,” according to Dell, but our review unit also came with Bluetooth functionality built into the 13-in-1 media card reader. You can get Bluetooth in a few other systems if you purchase an expensive Bluetooth-connected mouse-and-keyboard set, but no other mainstream midtower PC that we’re aware of has an option for effectively integrated Bluetooth, as Dell has here.

We were also surprised by the Inspiron 531 on our performance tests. Most of the systems we’ve seen in the $1,000 to $1,500 category aim for speed on either basic applications or games. The Inspiron 531 is just as fast as it should be games-wise, giving you solid-enough Quake 4 performance as long as you keep the resolution reasonable. More exciting are its Cinebench and iTunes scores, which tied or outperformed the pricier Gateway DX430X. You can perform most any mainstream task with the Inspiron 531, and in some cases, much faster than we expected.

In addition to the speed and the various means of wireless connectivity, Dell rounds this system out with the standard optical drive combination of a DVD drive and a dual-layer DVD burner. We’re a bit surprised that Dell doesn’t even offer a Blu-ray drive as an option with this PC, but we suspect it’s keeping that feature exclusive to the higher-end XPS line. We’re at least glad to see one feature carry over to this system from more performance-minded systems–a new standard mouse that has two thumb-side buttons. Just know that once you go down the two-thumb-button road, you won’t want to veer off.

Dell’s service and support pulls more-or-less even with HP and Gateway with this new system by including a useful software front-end similar to HP’s Total Care and Gateway’s BigFix applications. Dell’s support center is as easy to use as HP’s software, and both include tools and how-to information to help you maintain your own PC. Dell’s support center links primarily to online resources, which could put you in a bind if your Internet connection becomes a source of trouble. Still, it’s handy to have all of that information presented in an easy-to-find manner.

In addition to its support center, Dell has also gotten a little more enterprising with its software and service offerings. A service called PC Tune-Up will, for “a small fee,” perform automated tasks like defragging your system, setting restore points, and cleaning your registry. To Dell’s credit, it also tells you how to do most of those things yourself via Windows’ built-in tools.

Dell has also moved DataSafe, its name for redundant RAID 1 hard drives, online, giving you 3GB of online storage for one year. After that you can extend the duration of your storage for an amount to be determined, or upgrade to up to 30GB for $40 a year. We wouldn’t exactly call that fee exorbitant, and it’s, of course, optional. Still, it’s hard for us to get too excited about it when you can get even more storage for free with no time limit through the creative use of various online e-mail providers.

In addition to the new software and the optional storage, Dell’s basic support offerings remain largely the same. You get one year of parts and labor warranty coverage, as well as 24-7 toll-free tech support. Online, you’ll find the same resources as outlined on Dell’s new software, and Dell also continues to offer its Dell Connect service, which, with your permission, gives Dell’s techs the option to take over your computer remotely to solve problems.

There is an interesting and free online computer golf game, called Shot-Online.

What makes it so interesting is that Shot-Online gives you a multi-player online golf game that is also an RPG, or Role Playing Game.

If you are unfamiliar with RPG’s, it means that there is a bit more to the game than just getting good at computer golf. Because it’s an RPG golf game, players are rewarded in other ways and in fact they must meet certain benchmarks (ie. they must level up) and participate in the online golf game’s community.

In Shot-Online Golf, by reaching the benchmarks or leveling up, your player gains status, can obtain better golf clubs and even wear nicer clothes

Whats more, leveling up earns you points. These game points are needed to enhance the four elements of your online golf essence: Power, Impact, Stamina, Skill.

Just practicing is one way to level up. Training by playing in the online golf games is another way. You are rewarded for strengthening your weaknesses, as well. Playing with and against higher level golfers also contributes to your leveling up process.

The community aspect of Shot-Online comes when players band together in teams to possess and defend country clubs of their own.

Digital Cameras + Photography& Recreation Tips& Entertainment Online05 Jul 2007 10:11 am

Everyone knows there are two kinds of digital cameras:

  1. The basic ones costing between $130 and $300 often defined by the megapixels it can capture in a picture. The higher, the better (or so the common wisdom goes);
  2. dSLRs or Digital single lens reflex cameras costing over $350 up to thousands and defined by more than just mega-pixel capability.

Most people do well by just buying the first kind - the basic digital camera. Most of these cameras have short video clip capabilities and memory ports to plug in extra memory modules (remember digital cameras eat a lot of memory) and thereby maximize the number of pictures you can take. Popular cameras of this type include the Kodak digital cameras which come highly recommended for their large view screens, ease of use and customer support and accessories available. Others like the Olympus are also very good cameras and will suit the needs of most families and general hobbyists just fine.

The dslrs are primarily designed for the serious hobbyist or professional photographer and take a lot more study and diligence in learning how to get the most from them. They are certainly worth their weight in gold if you’re trying to make money with them.

Oh, did I mention that it’s also possible to make money with the standard digital cameras too? Yes it is but a dslr with their lense interchangeability make it by far the better of the two choices when you’re serious about taking macro shots or telephoto pics or just good tack sharp photos in dark or light settings.

Try this site if you’re looking to purchase a digital camera for the first time and you’re in the ‘just looking’ stage.

Here are two additional blogs that may add to your knowledge when taking digital photos: One is for digital photography work and the other is for the more technical aspects of shooting good pictures

You do not have to play anywhere special to have a good time.
There are special backgammon game tables that you can purchase
or you can make your own backgammon table yourself. This is your
choice.

There are certain tables that you can buy to play backgammon on.
These tables come with their own board already set up on it. It
is printed on the top of the table and has slots and spaces for
the accessories that come with the game. These types of tables
are for the true backgammon player.

There is no reason why you have to go out and purchase your own
backgammon table. You may decide that you can make one on your
own. If you are handy at making your own crafts, this is
defiantly something that you can do on your own. All you have to
do is get wood and make it into a table with a top and legs and
then print the game board on the tabletop.

You can get as creative or keep it as simple as you want. Just
make sure that you follow the basic outline of the board game to
keep things as similar to the original as possible. You can even
make your own game pieces. These could be made out of metal or
wood or any other type of hard material that you have. Again,
you can make them as simple or as creative as you want.

If you do not want to make or buy your own table for backgammon,
then you can set the game up on your kitchen or dinning room
table. You can even play the game on your living room floor. As
long as you have a flat surface to play and keep the game pieces
in place, you have what you need to play backgammon. Most people
like to play on some sort of table.

If you are buying a backgammon table, you can look at department
stores or game stores for one. You can even buy one online or
you can find on in a catalog. They can be found at reasonable
prices. There are many different sizes and shapes for these
boards. It just comes down to your preference and where you play
the game.

Would you like to pop in a CD and have a better quality of life, and even self improvement? There are three ways you can use music to accomplish this.

Music For Motivation

Put on energetic music, and even doing housework seems less like work. Using music to motivate yourself or change your mood is an area where you can trust your experience and experimentation. When you find the msic that energizes you, relaxes you, or makes you happy, keep it ready for when you need it.

Music For Intelligence

Music creates neural pathways in your brain that stimulate creativity. Studies show that music trains the brain for higher forms of thinking. In one study, three-year-olds were split into two groups. The first had no special training in, or exposure to music. The second group studied piano and sang daily in chorus.

Eight months later the musical three-year-olds were much better at solving puzzles. They also scored 80% higher in spatial intelligence than the other group. There’s also anectdotal evidence that listening to music, especially from Mozart’s era, can help you study and learn better.

Hopefully there will be more research. In the meantime there’s no reason not to do your own experimentation. I’ve heard that Stephen King writes with loud rock music playing, so the benefits of music may be according to your own tastes or brain-organization.

Music For Brainwave Entrainment

Want to listen to some music, and get smarter, or have instant easy meditation? There are products now that “entrain” your brainwaves, in order to put you in a meditative state. Music is embedded with beats and pulses that entrain your brain waves to a specific frequency. Put in the right CD or MP3 for your activity, and you get better brain function. Science? Partly.

Brain wave frequencies vary with mental state. Daydreaming and light meditation take place in the “Alpha” range of frequencies, for example. So if you listen to music containing beats at a frequency of 10 Hz you will generate more brainwaves at a 10 Hz frequency and enter a relaxed Alpha mental state. Do these things really work?

Yes. I’ve found two products that put me in a peaceful state unlike any other music or meditative practice. Studies will prove the effects (some have already), and disprove the wilder claims. Given my results, however, I wouldn’t wait for more research. Many things work long before the scientific proof arrives.

If you are skeptical, you can wait for more evidence of the benefits of brainwave entrainment. Meanwhile, why not try classical music when you study, just to see if it helps? Experiment with music - Mozart isn’t dangerous.

Evie Browne-Paterson is publisher of EvieB’s New-Z, an ezine aimed at people with a business who want to promote it for free or at little cost. Subscribers are provided with Free marketing
software, marketing ebooks, marketing articles, techie tips, contests, where to get bargains, original promotion concepts and more. $590 worth of free advertising as a subscription bonus and two free ads to 32k+ each week!

To subscribe, visit http://evieb.com/new-z.html

KH: How important has publishing an ezine been to your business?

EBP: It is the basis of my business so it is very important.

KH: How long have you been running an ezine and how many subscribers do you have?

EBP: Just over a year, October 2001, and I now have over 32,500 subscribers.

KH: Do you submit your ezine to directories and/or announcement
lists and if so how effective has this been in gaining new subscribers to your publication?

EBP: Yes definitely and I resubmit every other month. I use Ezine Announcer software to do this. It automates the process and makes it much quicker.

KH: Do you write and use your own articles to promote your ezine? How valuable has writing articles been in promoting your ezine?

EBP: Yes. Not as often as I’d like to but I should have more time now that I’ve just left my full time job. Writing was the whole reason I started an ezine in the first place. I’ve always wanted to write because I enjoy it tremendously and it is very
rewarding. Promotion wise for the ezine, articles are a great tool.

KH: What methods do you use to promote your products or services within your ezine?

EBP: I use a passive method to promote my services. I don’t like to force things down people’s throats because if they want to advertise with me, they will. I’m more focused on helping my
subscribers get something of value from my ezine. I always use EzineAdAuction to sell advertising so it’s more consistent for me to use that method instead of pushing advertising to my
subscribers. Mind you, if I have a special going, I just include it in the Editor’s Blurb to let my subscribers know.

KH: How do you go about preparing your ezine for publication?

EBP: I do a lot of research in the days leading up to publication and send myself links, information, etc., that I
will use in the ezine via email. I keep it in my inbox and then include the information in my ezine when I’m actually getting the ezine ready.

When I’m preparing the ezine, I use the previous issue so I can continue along the lines of the last edition and I update it to the current issue.

As I publish online, I need to copy and paste everything into notepad first and then I make sure all the links open in a new window, and lastly, I run the spell checker over it before uploading. Then I test the tracking link to make sure it works before I send out an email with the tracking link included.

KH: Any advice to future ezine publishers? Things to look out for or things to concentrate on when publishing an ezine?

EBP: Yes. Make sure you have a good web host that won’t shut you down at the first spam complaint. I’ve had several
complaints and I only ever send email to personal friends or my subscriber list. Quite often it’s a virus sending the spam and not me. I’ve never sent spam in my life. It’s just not worth
risking everything you’ve worked hard for to lose over a single complaint!

Another thing: Don’t complain to your subscribers! They don’t want to hear it! If you use your ezine as a place to complain, then rewrite it, and rewrite it again until it’s out of your
system - then click send when you’ve rewritten it completely to sound more positive! :~)

Ask other publishers for resources and help. They’d be happy to help you out.

Try to keep organized so you don’t spend too many hours getting your ezine ready. Make up a mental plan of what you want to include in advance, or write it down. Try not to publish late
if you can help it, but these things do happen sometimes. :~)

With an impending up-grade to the family due in a few months it soon became clear that our two-bedroom home would need an addition. We loved our house too much to consider moving. Not having the large sum of cash necessary to build it, however, we began a process that became a little more than burdensome. As my wife and I wandered in and out of financial institutions claiming to have “The lowest rates around” and discovering the degree of separation between institutions was greater than we had anticipated, it became very clear that this process would take a lot longer than we had originally thought.

As we were filling out the umpteenth loan application form one night a commercial for a popular insurance company came on. It offered to give us a free quote from them and from some of their competitors. I have no problem with the idea but I have always wondered how much effort they really put into finding the lowest rate available for the coverage needed. After all they too were trying to get our business. But then I had an idea!

Like some kid that had just realized a potential way to save themselves a ton of work, I went to the Internet and sure enough, there it was! A company that could take the same information that I had been supplying on application after application and shop it around for the best rates! It was over! No more wandering in and out of banks or finance companies to fill out the same paperwork over and over until I was literally cramping. In minutes they came back with the name of a place that would save us thousands of dollars over another company we had been interested in. We had now saved ourselves many hours of painstaking effort.

We started adding the addition the very next week. If you need a loan for any reason just get online and find yourselves an honest site that will find you the best rate possible. This is the Information Age and there are places online that can find you the best rate with less effort than you could ever hope to achieve on your own!

We all know the cost of not shopping around for the best rates. It can honestly add up to thousands of dollars over the course of your loan. Don’t work harder, grasshopper—work smarter!
