Lots of quilters enjoy participating in a swap. The main aim of
a swap is to get more of the particular object that you are
swapping. Considering we are talking to quilters here, the
things that they like to swap include, charm squares, completed
blocks or pieces of fabric. To organise a swap you’ll need
participants firstly. These are easily recruited through your
own quilt groups. You must have a theme to the swap that entices
more people to join. Keep the rules simple so that people
understand what they are doing. Rules for swaps include the
size, shape, design or colour of the fabric/block to be swapped.
For instance, you could organise a swap of blue and white, 6.5″
nine patches. You find out how many people are interested in
participating, and that’s how many blocks each person makes. One
for themselves, and one for everyone else. Set a deadline for
the swap to be finished and that’s about it. Other things to
consider are these. Is this a centralised swap or not? A
centralised swap is where the swap hostess collects all of the
items on the due date, swaps them all about, and redistributes
them to the participants so each person has one of everything.
The hostess needs to be organised and not mind spending a lot of
time sorting it out. A non-centralised swap is where each
individual sends/gives each other person involved in the swap
their own item. If you are posting, this can become costly. If
there is a person who drops out and doesn’t contribute, then you
don’t always get the same amount back that you sent. Are you
swapping blocks? Give a good description of the block that
everyone is making. Include instructions. Make sure that it is
within every ones sewing ability. Be very clear on the colours
to use, if this is important. Be clear on what the finished
measurements of the block should be. Be prepared to accept
blocks that might not be sewn well, remember that there are all
levels of ability out there, and we should encourage more
quilters to join these activities. Variations on a block swap.
Have the same block every month but change the colour scheme.
Change the fabric every month to relate to a social calendar ie,
Christmas fabric for December, hearts for February. Give each
person the choice of block that they would like, and give them
their blocks on their birthday. Choose a theme for the blocks
such as hearts, stars etc. Are you swapping fabrics? Decide on
what size the fabric should be. Fat quarters are nice, but you
may want to take into account peoples finances. Choose a colour
scheme for the swap. Often it’s hard to find a particular
colour, so if everyone in the swap provides 8 FQ’s of one yellow
fabric, and there are 8 people in the swap, everyone should end
up with 8 different yellow fabrics. An excellent way to increase
those bare spots in the stash. Rules for this sort of swap need
to specify quality of fabric, to pre-wash or not, and believe it
or not, some people are allergic to cat hair and cigarette smoke
and we all know that these permeate the fabrics. Are you
swapping Charm Squares? This is a great way to get lots of
fabrics for those quilts that just need scraps. Decide how many
different fabrics should be in each pack. Then you provide one
pack for each participant. If there are twenty 10″ squares per
pack, and 10 people in the swap, each person will end up with
200 different fabrics. Excellent. Rules for this swap are
similar to fabric swaps. You’ll need to be exact with the
cutting measurements, just in case people want to sew the
squares together as is. A good way to use up the fabrics in your
stash that you may not wish to keep anymore. Other things that
you can swap include buttons, signature squares, or hand made
items such as pincushions, Christmas ornaments and place mats.
The variations on a swap are endless. Just be prepared to join
in, accept what you receive in the spirit it is sent and you’ll
have loads of fun, and make new friends too.

You can differentiate between a designer hand bag and its exact replica if you know a few things. No doubt, at times,it may be difficult because of the skill set of the scammer in making duplicates. Often times, these exact replicas are just that – exact. Never mind, you can have some clue or the other to identify a fake.

Place of Purchase

More often than not, place of selling can be the biggest clue. For example, if you are on a web site that does not belong to the brand you are looking for,you have a reason to believe that you are getting a replica. And when on these sites, it is always considered good practice to read through all of the fine print. Such web sites have a mandatory compulsion to mention that the product on sale is not the original.

Another place where you can find designer handbag exact replicas is on the streets of big cities like New York. Often times, street vendors will offer these replicas for a fraction of the price of the real deal. People are lured to buy from such places because of the attractive price tag without realising that by doing so they are breaking the law. For obvious reasons, a real designer will avoid selling his creation on streets.

Why Get a Replica?

Many women understand that what they are getting is just not the real thing and do not care as long as no one else around them can tell the difference. While some people consider this being cheap, others consider it being smart. For those who can’t really afford $1200 to spend on a purse, one that looks exactly the same for $120 sounds a lot better.

There is a growing popularity among teens to possess designer handbags. A large number of parents may not be willing to allow their children to carry expensive handbags. So instead of buying an expensive purse for their daughter, they will purchase designer handbag exact replicas and the girl is normally just as happy.

So in order to prevent yourself from falling into the trap of designer handbag exact replicas, you just need to use simple precautions and pay attention to the fine print. And for those who do want a replica, you know where to look and you know that you don’t need to pay top dollar for those handbags.

Need A Scrapbook Journaling Idea?

Try using song lyrics in your next layout.

Song lyrics can be a great source of title and page inspiration
for a scraper.

Music and songs play an important part in our lives. Hearing a
song again can evoke a lot of emotion, bringing back fond
memories of special times, special people and special places.

Of course, different songs mean different things to different
people - but you can use songs to ‘tap’ into those memories to
create unique, and highly personal scrapbook pages.

How do you use lyrics on your pages?

Well, here’s a scrapbook journaling idea for you to try using a
wedding layout as an example.

If the bride and groom have their own ’special song’ then you
use that to add a personal touch. If not don’t worry find
another suitable song instead, there are lots of song lyric web
sites on the internet that you can browse.

Pick a section from your chosen song for example, the first
verse of “A Groovy Kind of Love” by Phil Collins and journal the
lyrics around the edges of your page.

Then embellish your border with some appropriate wedding
stickers, die-cuts or punches. Tie it all neatly together, by
using the title of the chosen song as the accent title for your
layout.

What about a friendship page? You could use some of the lyrics
from “You’ve Got a Friend” by Carole King, maybe decorate your
border with musical notes.

Doing a page about someone’s birthday? You could journal the
words from “Happy Birthday” and embellish the border with cakes,
candles or other birthday memorabilia.

Don’t limit yourself to just a section of a song, use all of it
if you want to.

Write or print out the complete song lyrics onto some nice paper
and add it to your page. If you don’t have the room left on your
album page make a pocket envelope to put your song sheet into.

You can apply this scrapbook journaling idea to any kind of page
theme, not just the ones listed here as examples.

There have been tens of thousands of songs published over the
years covering all sorts of subjects - the possibilities for the
resourceful scraper are endless.

Just make sure that the song title or lyric you are going to use
is suitable for the theme of your layout and you’ll soon add a
quick, simple and memorable piece of journaling to your page.

Did you know that you can find stained glass deals if you look
hard enough? There are a number of places to buy stained glass -
let’s look at a few of them.

The easiest and least risky way to buy glass is in a kit. You
can purchase kits online: simply search for “stained glass kits”
and you’ll see dozens of online suppliers. Or you can buy kits
at Michael’s Arts and Crafts, Ben Franklin, or your local craft
store. Many smaller craft stores may not stock kits, but they
will be glad to order what you want.

The kit will only include glass you need for the project; you
don’t have to worry about leftovers. If you’re new to the hobby,
start with a kit or two - that way you won’t invest in glass
inventory you may find you don’t need.

If you decide to buy glass in bulk, the first place to look is
your local glass shop or craft shop. There are advantages and
disadvantages to dealing with your local store. The advantages
are clear: you can build up a business relationship with the
store, you can inspect the glass before you purchase it, and you
can ask questions and get advice from a knowledgeable source.
The disadvantage is their selection may be limited and their
prices may be higher than you can get from wholesale or discount
glass companies. Of course, your local shop can order glass, but
you lose the advantage of pre-inspecting the glass, and the
price will probably be a little higher since the store will need
to mark the glass up in order to make a profit.

If your store orders glass for you, ask if you can inspect it
before you actually make the purchase. The color or texture in
the catalog may not be the same as the color or texture you
eventually receive.

There are a number of glass suppliers that can be found online.
Simply search for “stained glass supplies” or “stained glass”
and you’ll see hundreds of possibilities. If you decide to try
an online supplier, make a small purchase the first time so you
can evaluate their quality, professionalism, and service. When
you’re comparing price with your local shop, make sure you take
into account shipping charges; the raw glass may be cheaper, but
when combined with shipping costs the total transaction may cost
more.

Some glass manufacturers sell “sample sets.” These are exactly
what they sound like: packages with a variety of glass types and
colors enclosed. Many smaller sample sets cost less than $15 or
$20 at online supply stores. Typically larger craft stores like
Ben Franklin carry very few glass sample sets; if they do, their
selection will be limited, but if you check they may have just
what you need. In general the sheets of glass are smaller than
what you’d normally buy, so you’re not stuck with a lot of glass
you may never use. If you’re new to the hobby, aren’t sure what
you want to make, and are interested in experimenting, a sample
set can be an inexpensive way to try out different colors and
techniques.

If you stay alert you may find great deals from local artisans
or hobbyists. For instance, many hobbyists will sell glass if
they’re preparing to move - glass is hard to pack up and move,
and many people won’t want to bother. You may not find an
opportunity like that often, but if you do, you can usually pay
twenty-five percent or less for glass compared to what you would
have paid retail.

Sometimes glass shops will also sell partial sheets at a large
discount. If the partial sheet is large enough for your intended
use, great! (Buying partial sheets is like buying carpet
remnants.) Glass shops often also have “For Sale” bulletin
boards for hobbyists to use to advertise leftover glass they
want to sell - keep an eye out for pieces you can use.

You can also find supplies and tools at yard sales - make sure
you have a wish list of tools with you and you may find exactly
what you’re looking for. You can also buy used tools on “For
Sale” bulletin boards at glass shops; if a local craftsperson
has upgraded to a more expensive grinder, for instance, they may
be more than willing to sell you their used grinder for a
fraction of its original cost.

There is much more to this story than written here. Stained
glass can be incredibly interesting once you learn all about
it…

For those of you that like an easy wedding favor that is a little different then why not use a local photographer, you can have each guest pose for a shot which can be presented to them at the wedding reception. All the photographer needs to do is to have a printer with him so he can give each guest their photo before they leave later in the day. It is a nice gift and a wedding favor your guests will appreciate when they leave with a photo of how they looked on your wedding day. If the photographer can arrange a slide show, the guests not only get a personal memento but they also get the opportunity to see how the photos turned out for all of the other guests as well.

Dividing up household chores is a great way to get everyday
household tasks in less time and with less complaints.

It’s 5:00 p.m. and I’ve just walked in the door. I’m tired, the
living room’s a mess, and the kitchen sink is full of last
night’s dinner dishes. So whose turn is it to do the dishes
anyway? My husband did them last…his tolerance for dirty
dishes is much lower than mine when we end up in a standoff to
see who can stand the dirty dishes the longest. I always win.

I don’t really mind doing the dishes, but I do take exception to
doing the dishes, cooking dinner, cleaning up the living room,
and making sure the laundry’s started. Especially after a 9-hour
day at work. So what’s the answer? Blackmail, bribery,
intimidation? Why not work out a solution that benefits the
whole family and encourages everyone to work together?

If your children receive an weekly allowance, you should make
them work for it, and from a very young age. I started giving my
daughter an allowance before she was told she had to participate
in the household chores (besides cleaning her room), and you can
only imagine her reaction when all the sudden she had to work
for it.

How you determine the division of labor in your home depends on
how many children you have, and how much work you want them to
actually do. We only have once child, so I didn’t figure it was
fair to make her do the majority of the household chores. If we
had more children who were old enough to help out around the
house, they would definitely have a larger share of the
workload. So in our case we chose a fairly equitable
distribution: one person does the dishes and mops the kitchen
floor, one person picks up the living room, dusts, and vacuums,
and one person does the laundry. Our schedules rotate on a
weekly basis. That way everyone has to do each job, but only
every 3 weeks. You wouldn’t believe how much it improves your
attitude knowing you don’t have to do the dishes for 2 weeks.
It’s suddenly no big deal!

This arrangement has worked very well for us. My husband and I
just wanted the house picked up but don’t want to feel like one
of us is doing all of the work, and our daughter doesn’t want to
lose her allowance. Everyone’s happy. There are a lot of other
household chores not covered in our agreement, but we chose to
tackle the big, everyday, most overwhelming chores that no one
ever wanted to take responsibility for. I usually end up
cleaning the bathrooms, cleaning out the litterbox, etc., but it
doesn’t really bother me. My husband definitely does his share.
He insists on vacuuming under the chairs and couches, and that’s
fine with me. I’ll let him if it makes him happy.

Cigars have long been associated with the rich and powerful, with relaxation and rich flavor. Cigar aficionados have created a culture around the art of smoking, assembling various theories and accessories to debate and facilitate smoking. Much like wine tasting, cigar smoking has been seen as a diversion of the upper echelons of society.

It is believed that cigars were probably first produced in Spain, and then quickly caught on in other European countries. Although many different countries manufacture cigars, Cuban cigars have long been highly regarded as one of the most flavorful and rich of all cigars. This is due to regional microclimates that are said to produce the highest quality tobacco, as well as the skill of the country’s cigar makers. Other countries that produce significant amounts of tobacco and cigars include Brazil, Mexico, Honduras, Ecuador, Cameroon, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, and the United States. Why have cigars long caught the attention of so many? Many speculate that the cigar’s main attraction is in the way it is manufactured. High quality cigars are always wrapped by hand. Unlike cigarettes, cigars undergo a lengthy process of fermentation and aging (much like wine), resulting in subtle flavors and textures. They are highly individual and the best cigars will provide no smoky aftertaste at all.

The taste of cigars is much more complex than cigarettes. The majority of all cigars are created by wrapping three different layers of tobacco leaves together. High quality cigars usually contain long leaves of nicotine as the filler, although they may also contain a combination of scraps. This results in subtle variations, different textures, and complex flavors. Cigarettes, on the other hand, are mass-produced and generally only contain one type of tobacco. Cigars also come in an incredible variety of flavors. The dedicated cigar aficionado can find chocolate, vanilla, apple, and even coffee-flavored cigars!

Some men may not know or do not have the slightest idea if
a woman is ready to be kissed. These men may be sitting
beside their dates talking too much they suddenly realize
how the lips of their dates are so kissable.

Their imagination will then take control, but this would
also mean disaster if done wrong. This may often leave
these men without a second chance for another date with the
woman.

If a guy finds himself talking to a girl and wondering if
she’s ready to be kissed, he may softly touch her hair and
give a compliment about it.

If the girl shows a favorable reaction, this may be a sign
of getting closer to a kiss. Get closer and try reaching
for her hair again.

Touch the hair tips and simply gaze on her lips and eyes.
The fact that she does not mind about you getting closer to
her is a sign that she is comfortable. This is a sign for a
guy to go and kiss the girl.

Some guys try to go out on an adventurous date in order to
make the kissing move more suave and natural. One
particular example is a guy who usually takes a girl to a
small boat ride on a river.

Upon sailing along the river, he happens to direct the boat
to a place covered with trees and fireflies - truly a
romantic place to kiss.

A guy can also take her date to some ancient ruins in a
local spot and manage to spend time walking until dark.
These ruins usually light up at night.

The guy can take his date to the top of the ruins where
they can see the city all beautifully lit up. This is when
the guy should make a move and kiss his date.
