So you’ve researched the market you’ve decided to get into on the net, you’ve done your
homework and you know their’s a demand for your product and not a whole lot of sites to
compete with. Now your excited about the possibilities you may face. You’ve bought
your domain name and you have it hosted. You’ve submitted your site to all the major
search engines, directories, you’ve even implemented a linking strategy to add to your
marketing arsenal. Over the next couple of weeks you pay close attention to your
webstats, and money allowing you’ve bought a couple of marketing ebooks and started
testing different strategies. Some worked, some didn’t. You notice your averaging 10-20
unique visitors per day, but nothing too write home about. You’ve done what you think
is a good job on your site, not too heavy on javascript or flash, mostly rich in useful text
content, pretty well search engine friendly. But still no major traffic to get your heart
pumping. You scratch your head in bewilderment wondering what your doing wrong.
Your thinking are my expectations to high? The answer is no. It’s not that your
expectations are too high, what you have too do is come out of your “shell” like I finally
did. Bare down and start writing articles! I finally did this just the other day and went
from 15-20 unique visitors a day to (last count) was 103 unique visitors and 321
pageviews plus one affiliate sale! How did I feel? I was happily nervous, proud, and had
one of the best adrenaline rushes I’ve ever experienced! If a newbie like myself can do it
so can you. The skies the limit, just use your imagination. All the best of luck to you.

I firmly believe that to be a success when selling ebooks on eBay you need to have an eBay store. They more than pay for the £6 monthly fee with the benefits they provide. These include cheaper fees, longer listing duration, and much more. Find out about all the benefits below:

1) Cheaper Fees:- The insertion fee for an auction listing on eBay is 15p. The insertion fee for a buy it now listing on eBay is 20p. However, the insertion fee for a store listing is only 3p. On top of this the gallery fee for auction and buy it now listings is 15p whilst the gallery fee for a store listing is only 5p. These are the only two listing features I use for my eBay ebook listings which gives me a total saving of between 12p-17p per ebook I list in my eBay store. Now this doesn’t seem like much of a saving, but since I list all my ebooks as store listings and only a small proportion as auction listings this actually equates to a significant saving. I would advise any other ebook sellers on eBay to also list their ebooks in this way as it will lead to huge cost savings for you. If you list your full inventory as eBay store listings, and then your most popular items on the main eBay site as either buy it now or auction style listings you can save money and promote your eBay store (I will discuss this promotion aspect further in the next edition of the newsletter).

2) Longer Listing Duration:- The maximum listing duration of a buy it now or auction style listing is ten days. With a store inventory listing you can list for 30 days, 90 days, or Good till Cancelled (the listing renews every 30 days till you cancel it). Not only does this provide the benefit of added value for money, but it also saves you a lot of time. Instead of relisting an ebook every ten days you can simply list it in your store as Good till Cancelled and not worry about it again.

3) Unlimited Inventory:- When you list an ebook as an auction or buy it now the insertion fee goes up depending how many items you want to list. When you list in your eBay store the insertion fee remains at 3p whether you list 1 item or 1000 items. This is a huge benefit to ebook sellers because as you already know, you can sell infinite copies of the same ebook, since it is digital. Therefore, if you list 1000 copies of your ebook (or even more if you wish) as a Good till Cancelled listing you will hardly every have to maintain it. This will not only save you time but also money.

4) Custom Store Pages:- With a basic eBay store you get 5 custom pages (and even more with anchor and featured stores). These custom pages are useful ways of conveying extra information to your customers. I use my custom pages for; a Disclaimer page, a Privacy Policy page, a SPAM Policy page, a Terms and Conditions page, and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. However, they can also be used to convey other important information to your customers or to promote one of your products or websites. Having these custom pages available in your eBay store makes you look more professional which in turn generates increased customer trust.

5) Store Categories:- With an eBay store you get 20 custom categories which you can assign your listings to. This is extremely useful because customers who are looking for a certain type of ebook will be able to browse by category. Some of the categories I use include; “Gambling Guides and Systems,” “Email and Autoresponder” and “Wholesale and Dropshipping.” If a customer visits my eBay store and only has a general idea of the ebook that they want, these categories should guide them in the right direction, and then hopefully lead to a sale. Since many people who buy ebooks will be merely browsing, these categories should increase sales and also make your store easier to navigate, meaning customers are more likely to return.

6) Store Cross Promotion:- With an eBay store you can cross-promote your items. This involves a small box appearing at the bottom of your listings promoting some of your other listings. You can do this manually, automatically, or via store category. I prefer to do it by category as then the most relevant listings appear and so there is more chance of a customer making a repeat purchase. For example, if a customer buys a Chilli Recipe ebook and at the bottom of the listing you are promoting 4 more recipe ebooks, it is likely that this is something the buyer will be interested in, and so may make another purchase from you. If however, 4 gambling guides appear, the customer is unlikely to be interested in this, and so is less likely to make a repeat purchase. Repeat business will not only increase your profits but also increase your long-term growth.

Recently eBay has also added the ability to cross-promote with other sellers. This is very easy to set up and eBay manages the whole process for you. All you have to do is go to the “Cross-Promotion Connections” area of My eBay and then use the request cross-promotions link in order to set them up. If the other seller agrees then a box promoting their products will appear on your listings and vice versa. This is again a valuable opportunity to increase sales.

7) Store Tools:- With an eBay store you get tools such as sales reports, traffic reports, and a basic newsletter tool. The first two tools are very useful for monitoring how your business is growing. The traffic reports show you your daily traffic for all of your eBay pages, and compare it to the traffic on those pages both 4 weeks prior and 1 year prior. This allows you to monitor both your short term and long-term growth.

The sales reports are particularly useful because they incorporate eBay fees and PayPal fees. This means you can see how much actual profit you are making after all fees have been accounted for. They also show sales growth so you can monitor this also.

The newsletter tool whilst basic is also useful. If people opt-in to recieve your newsletter then it can automatically be set to send out monthly updates of new items that have been added to your eBay store. This again increases the chance of repeat business. It is particularly useful for ebook sellers who are likely to be adding new products on a regular basis.

8) Store Customisation:- With an eBay store you can customise the look and feel of the store, making it unique. The ways you can do this include adding a store logo, adding a custom header to all your logos, choosing the layout of your categories and listings, changing the colours, using promotion boxes, and much more. The benefit that this provides is that when customers visit your store it is different and stands out from the rest. This will make them pay more attention to your store, spend more time browsing, and hopefully lead to increased sales and long-term business.

9) Store URL:- When you get an eBay store you get an actual URL (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/yourstore) which you can promote. Not only does this link look much more attractive and professional than the long and clunky View the Sellers Items link, but it also gets listed in the search engines and the eBay stores directory. This means that you will have traffic coming in from outside of eBay also, which is a benefit you do not get without eBay stores.

Hopefully this article has shown you that for the low monthly fee of £6 you can save time and money, look like a more professional business, and increase your traffic and sales. You even get your first month of having an eBay store free so there really is nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain.

Tom Parker sells ebooks with resell rights on eBay at http://stores.ebay.co.uk/theebookcavern. He also runs http://www.theebookcavern.co.uk/ where he intends to sell his own ebook “How to set up a Successful, Automated Ebook Business on eBay” and a free newsletter which you can join by sending an email to: newsletter@theebookcavern.co.uk.

Success Express for Teens: 50 Activities That Will Change Your Life
By Roger Leslie
Bayou Publishing (2005)
Reviewed by Kim Peterson for Reader Views (1/06)

Success Express equips teens to move from where they are now to where they want to be by applying the activities found in this exciting book. Each exercise is designed to provide the tools for teens to advance toward their goals and dreams.

The author uses a train motif to compare a journey to a destination with the pursuit of a successful future. The logical stepsfrom mapping out the journey through traveling on a non-stop route to successparallel the small, day-to-day experiences that cumulatively define who people become. Leslie’s book encourages young adult readers to give their best at each level, paving the way for them to move forward to the next.

The user-friendly book format is presented in small sections so readers can complete an exercise or two and resume later. The readings and activities include sound questions like “What should I do next?” and “How can I use this in my life?” This handy guide even includes an assessment tool that reveals the reader’s intrapersonal and interpersonal style based on which activities worked best for that person. Leslie also offers an appendix full of suggestions for teachers, counselors or group leaders.

As a writer and educator, I found his examples pertinent because they mostly relate to his writing and teaching. Although occasional quotes from a teen applying the principles appear throughout, more input from young adults writing about their successes would be desirable for the target audience. However, teens will find Leslie’s style appealing and straightforward. His activities and insights are helpful and practical. Here’s to a successful life journey. All aboard!

In early December of 1843, Charles Dickens completed the manuscript for a little ghost story about Christmas. He called it A Christmas Carol and the publisher printed the first copies a week before Christmas. By Christmas Eve all 6000 printed copies were sold. The story was overwhelmingly received, being read and repeated in homes throughout London.

Charles Dickens had conceived the idea of writing a Christmas story less than three months earlier. The idea was partially a response to his urgent need to produce some additional income. His publisher had informed Dickens that sales of his novels were not as great as expected and that he would have to reduce the advance income due Dickens until sales increased.

Dickens described his writing plan as “a little scheme,” but as the writing of the story progressed, Dickens was overwhelmed by the story’s joyful message. He said that during the writing he “wept, and laughed, and wept again.” The little ghost story became a special project that Dickens became passionate about and finished quickly.

Charles Dickens insisted that the book contain numerous woodcuts and etchings and be well-bound. Then he also insisted that it should sell for the small price of five shillings to make it affordable to a wide audience. The book was no longer part of a personal economic plan but was a gift from Dickens to the imaginations of families everywhere and a blessing to everyone.

Dickens called his story A Christmas Carol because he expected the story to be repeated and shared and to bring people together just as the singing of Christmas carols spread joy and brought families together each season throughout London. His carol was a song of praise of the Christmas season and of the redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge.

Cleverly, Dickens called the five chapters of the book “staves.” A musical stave is a stanza with a consistent theme and mood. Each stave in the story delivers a different message and each has a definite mood. As in a carol each stave can stand alone but each contributes to the carol’s overall theme.

A good carol also contains a memorable refrain, repeated at appropriate times throughout. In Dickens’ A Christmas Carol the refrain is no doubt the blessing from Tiny Tim, “God bless us every one!” It’s a refrain that has been repeated countless times since the publishing of A Christmas Carol.

The story sings the praises of the sentiments of the Christmas season in a memorable way and will be repeated as long as carols and the Christmas season endure.

You have a great product, like your ebook in your hand. Or you are an
affiliate for some other ebook. Without advertising nobody knows about your product. You should start your advertising campaign as soon as you upload your product details to your website.

Before starting advertising you should develop a marketing plan for
your ebook.

You should clear few criteria yourself before actually starting
advertising.

1. What you are going to sell?

Develop a short description of your ebook. You want to include the benefits
of buying the ebook from you. Benefits should include how your product or
service can improve or help your potential customers.

Write them in short lines and paragraphs with clear space in between.

2. Who are your target audience?

Next determine who your potential customers are. You are selling your
ebook now. What is the subject of your ebook?

Is it childrens fiction story book? Then your target audience would be
children.

If it is about ‘how to have a good retirement plan’ your target audience
would be mem and women over 40.

3. Where are you going to advertise?

Write down a list of advertising resources like search engines, PPC Engines,
ezines, Newsletters, Opt-in lists, banner exchanges etc.

Like the above example, if you are selling childrens story book then you
have to concentrate a little bit more in advertising in childrens sites
like banner exchanges with them or keeping your ebook details in local
childrens stores as pamphlets etc.

4. How much do you want to spend on advertising?

Choose how much money you are going to spend each month. Whether it would
be $50 or $100, but you stick on with it.

If you haven’t seen the expected response then you increase the amount
or change the advertising method.

5. Track your ads constantly:

You should know what is happening to your advertising money. Simple equation
like ‘how much profit I am getting with the expenditure of this budget’.

http://www.webmasters-central.com/wprofits/tracking.shtml

Put some code in your emails when you want to track the response to your
ezine subscription.

Check your weblogs to see the referer after you keeping an advertising
banner on some other site.

If you don’t see the response change your method or ad wording.
